报告摘要：In this talk, I will start by reviewing some classical works (of Fisher,Kolmogorov-Petro

vsky-Piscunov, and Skellam) on traveling waves and constant spreading speed. I will then look at the 

theory of Aronson-Weinberger that describes the spreading by suitable Cauchy problems. Finally I 

will describe some recent theory obtained with my collaborators based on free boundary value proble

ms, and compare it with results arising from the Cauchy problem along the lines of Aronson-Weinber

ger.

报告人简介：Prof. Dr. Du Yihong(杜一宏) entered Math. Depart. of Shandong University in 1978 by exemption of gaokao and got all his degrees(BA, MS, Dr) there.After graduation, he taught there for two years and then went to Heriot-Watt Univ. (UK ) as a visiting fellow. In 1991, he moved to the Univ of New England,   Australia, and has stayed there. He is now a Mathematics Professor of the School of Science and Technology, University of New England. He also had visiting positions  in China, Spain, Taiwan (Dist.), Japan and USA.

Dr. Du is one of the leading mathematicians on Nonlinear Functional Analysis and Partial Differential Equations and has published more than 110 papers or books with 1700 citations by more than 600 different authors (MathSciNet before March 2015).The books are:1. Order Structure and Topological Methods in Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations,Vol. 1, Maximum Principles and Applications, World Scientific, 2006, 2. Recent Progress in Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations and Viscosity Solutions, World Scientific Publishing, 2009 (edited with Hitoshi Ishii and Wei-Yueh Lin )

Many of his papers are published in the top mathematics journals such as Arch.Rational Mech. Anal., SIAM J. Math. Anal., J. Funct. Anal., J. European Math. Soc., J. Differ. Equations, Trans.Amer.Math.Soc., Calc.Var.Partial Differ. Equ.., J. Math. Pures Appl. etc.

Dr. Du's professional activities include: 1. Associate Editor, J of Math Anal and Appl(2013-), 2. Member of Editorial Board, Discrete and Conti Dyn. Syst.-Series S (08-13), 3. Member of Australian Research Council's College of Experts from 2013,  4. Chair of Research Committee, School of Science and Technology, Univ. of New England (08-09), 5. Referee for more than 20 international research journals including J.of Amer.Math Soc etc.

Dr. Du has organized (with others) more than 10 conferences in Australia, Canada and China,etc.,including: 1. (co-chair of organizing committee) International Conference on Variational Methods and Nonlinear PDEs held in CAS(Beijing) in 2012; 2. (chair of organizing committee) International conference on recent development of nonlinear PDEs, Nov. 25-29, 2013, Australian National Univ. He is a Member of Scientific Committee for several international conferences held in Germany, Australia, Taiwan (Dist.).

Dr. Du's research is successively supported by Australian Research Council discovery grant since 2003. He received many honors and awards including Member of Australian Research Council's College of Experts (from 2013), Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Research of Univ. of New England (2007) and First Prize for Best Undergraduate Research Article of Shandong Univ. in 1981.
